JStar meets Citizen Sound feat. Ammoye – “Wa Do Dub” / Wrongtom meets Citizen Sound feat. Ammoye & Deemas J – “Wa Do Dance” 7 Inch [IIM010]

JStar is a London based Music Producer, Remixer and DJ. He recently remixed for Ari Up, Madness, DJ Vadim, Mark Ronson, OK-Ma, The Black Seeds, Uwe Kaa, Sola Rosa, Ms Dynamite and Kid Kanevil. He worked with labels like Sony, V2 & WEA, just to name a few. JStar recently coordinated the album “Dub Zealand” (Green Queen Music) together with Dr Cat (including artists like Unitone HiFi, Knights Of The Dub Table, The Nomad and The Black Seeds). His remix of “Wa Do Dub” transfers the tune into the spheres of Drum & Bass and will definetly burn the dancefloors across the planet!

Wrongtom is a record producer and dj from South London, now residing in the not-so-trendy reaches of the east end, he spends his days playing with tape echo and watching B-movies in his makeshift studio hidden away in a converted nunnery. Spanning over a decade, Tom’s career has covered a colourful patchwork of styles from Dancehall to Indie-Pop with the likes of Rockabilly, Dub, Ghettotech and Free Jazz filling the gaps in between. Starting out as a percussionist playing on records for Bob Jones’ Black On Black label and Kingsize Records, Tom soon taught himself to produce with some hand-me-down analogue gear and a cracked copy of Cubase, his early productions bridging the gap between new school breaks and old freestyle-electro records. He has recently remixed Roots Manuva tunes that were released on the already classic “Roots Manuva Meets Wrongtom”-album. His remix of “Wa Do Dub” gives the tune an interesting 80ies-Digital-Dancehall touch. He invited Deemas J to take part with his unique style.

Citizen Sound is the production moniker of Toronto-based DJ and producer Aram Scaram. In addition to his work in the studio, Aram is the co-host of Version Xcursion, a weekly radio show that has provided Toronto with some of the most ground-breaking dub for the past 13 years. Through Version Xcursion, Aram produced and released two full-length albums along with three EPs. Citizen Sound’s debut album was released in 2010. Producer Aram Scaram teamed up with some of Canada’s premier singers & musician’s to help bring his home-grown vision to life. The result is an exciting fusion of dub, reggae, soul & hip-hop. A Citizen Sound-remix of the classic track “Give Thanks” feat. Ranking Joe by Dubmatix, one of Aram’s mentors in the past, concludes the album.

Deemas J has been around for years, starting as an MC involved in the Drum & Bass/Jungle Scene in the UK. He can also be found on reggae- and funkreleases! His performance on “Wa Do Dance” has roots in the classic deejay-style of U-Roy and Ranking Joe. He is frequently working together with Wrongtom. The future will hopefully see a full-length-album with his tunes.

Ammoye is an artist that you will discover really quick when digging into the canadian reggaescene. Ammoye has worked with Juno award winning artists Dubmatix and Michael Buble, as well as Kreesha Turner, Corey Lee, Anjulie, Najja Calibur of Najjah’s World and Rise Ashen for their actual release “Haffi Win” (Balanced Records). Toronto based Ammoye is a multi-genre vocalist and therefore at home in different musical genres such as Reggae, R’n’B and Hip Hop. A unique voice and a style that can deal with a huge variety of music makes her special!
