Wackies Sampler Vol. 1
(Wackies/EFA - 2003)Die letzten Monate waren gepflastert von exquisiten Wiederveröffentlichungen alter Alben aus dem Studio von Wackies in der Bronx. Sie sorgten fast allesamt für Furore, so auch hier bei Irie Ites (siehe z.B. Love Joys, Meditations). Aufgenommen wurden sie Anfang der 80er Jahre und zählten bislang oft zu gesuchten Raritäten. Jetzt kommen sie in Kooperation von Basic Channel, home of Rhythm & Sound, und Wackies wieder auf den Markt. Dafür sei ihnen aufrichtig gedankt, denn das, was es zu hören gibt, ist mehr als bloß gut! Clive Field Marshall, Horace Andy, Naggo Morris, The Meditations, Wayne Jarrett, die Love Joys und andere haben hier einige ihrer besten Aufnahmen produziert. Interessant ist vor allem der rauhe, oft angedubbte Sound der Tunes. Ohne Frage lassen sich die Wurzeln bis zum Studio One von Coxsone Dodd aber auch zum Black Ark Studio von Perry verfolgen. Besonders interessant bei den hier auf dem ersten Sampler versammelten Tunes ist "Wicked Ago Feel It" von Sugar Minott, das auf dem selben Riddim basiert, der durch Willi Williams' "Armagideon Time" weltbekannt wurde. Der vorliegende Sampler bietet mit 18 Titeln zwischen Dub und Roots eine gute Gelegenheit, in das Universum von Wackies einzutauchen. Wer das bislang noch nicht versucht hat, sollte sich diese Gelegenheit nicht entgehen lassen.
The last months were paved by fine reissues of albums from the studio of Wackies in the Bronx. Nearly all of them were sensational, so even here at Irie Ites we were full of enthusiasm. Most of the albums were produced at the beginning of the 80's and some of them often ranked among hard to find rare pieces. I Cooperation of Basic Channel (Berlin), home of Rhythm & sound, and Wackies they are now reissued back to the market. Among the artists are Clive Field Marshall, Horace Andy, Naggo Morris, The Meditations, Wayne Jarrett, the Love Joys and others who have recorded some of their best productions at Wackies. Above all the rough sound of the recordings is interesting, often dubbed. Without question, the roots of this studio can be tracked back to Studio One and the Black Ark studio. Particularly interesting among the tunes on this first compilation is "Wicked Ago Feel It" by Sugar Minott, which was based on the same riddim, that later became famous by Willi William's "Armagideon Time"!
