Already after the first listening it was clear to me that I would start the album again from the beginning. I seldom liked a digital longplayer as much as Parly B. I became aware of it by the mixtape “How You Mean?” (Mixed by Robidon/Jam Jah Sound), which came out about 2 years ago and is packed with well-known producers. Among others Mungo’s HiFi, who brought Charlie P. on their new album “Lyrics Spree” and recorded “You Mi A Look”. A sound like the deployment of a huge cavalry. But already from track 1 “Lyrics Spree”, which has the same title as the album, you can hardly keep your feet still. The powerful voice of this extremely talented Brit drills its way into my ear like a Black’n Decker, where it bites it’s way to the last song. Forward, Pull up, rewind and come again!

Track number two “Motorbike” even comes along with a video and transports the resurrected digital sound qualitatively on a very high level, whereby his squeaky voice in the hook reminds me strongly of Major Mackarel. It should be mentioned that Parly B. leads me back to the “good old times” of the dancehall with the complete album. Many styles and sounds are based on the vibes of the 80s and 90s and catapult me directly back in those days. The second half of the LP gains more topicality musically, but remains strong and present, especially since there were more hands on the mixer. Above all, Parly B.’s flow is constantly stable and entertaining. Surely he doesn’t belong to the newcomers anymore, because he has worked on numerous releases for many years and also plays at many festivals. Nevertheless, you should definitely pay more attention to him. That’s why I can only recommend his new album to annyone who loves Dancehall. Absolutely worth buying!

Mit “Lyrics Spree” knüpft Scotch Bonnet Records direkt an die EP “This Is Digital” von 2016 an und verfolgt kontinuierlich die Entwicklung von Parly B, einem der versiertesten Sänger und MCs im Vereinigten Königreich. Und das zu Recht, denn Parly B hat viel zu bieten, als Sänger mit einer sehr tiefen Stimme oder als MC im Rub-A-Dub-Soundsystem-Modus, was ihm international viele Shows und Gastauftritte beschert.

Mit “Lyrics Spree” liegt sein Debütalbum vor. Als Produzenten zeichnen Mungo’s Hi Fi, Danny T & Tradesman, Subactive, Stalawa, The 4’20’ Sound und Interrupt verantwortlich. Alleine schon an diesem Reigen dürfte ablesbar sein, in welchen Gefilden sich Parly B herumtreibt. Auf der Basis von vielen, digitalen Riddims zeigt er sein Können. Mag ja sein, dass die Flut an digitalen Riddims mittlerweile so manchen Reggaenerd ermüden mag, aber hier wird über weite Phasen wirklich Qualität geboten. Das liegt vor allem an den guten Händchen der Produzenten als auch an Parly B himself.

“Lyrics Spree” legt eine ganze Palette von Klangfarben vor, die jeden Dance voran treiben. Ganz weit vorne landen hier der Titeltrack, “Motorbike”, “Talking Parrot” und “You Mi A Look” mit feinen Bläsersätzen und dem Gastauftritt von Charlie P. Dazwischen gibt es Tunes, die als “okay” durch gehen, aber nicht unbedingt sofort zünden, wie z.B. “Skylark” im Stalawa Mix.
